R.I.P.

It has come to my attention recently that Nosh-Blog has gone offline. Since it was hosted at a university, I suspect that Jon has moved on to other endeavors and they thought it reasonable to delete his directory from their servers. This is a tragic loss to the internet as a whole. Or, at least, to me. I fully intended to some day sit down and read the entire archive, but I didn’t, and now I can’t.

I stumbled upon Nosh-Blog in my first few months of doing the A Food Year project. After drawing the Rachel Ray and Julie Powell comparisons, I wanted to see if there were other food blogs out there doing something like I was. Sure enough, Jon had already cruised through a year of daily different dinners on the other side of the pond. His rules for his project were virtually identical to those I’d set out for myself. As time would show, my frustrations with the project would grow to near emulate his as well. Over the course of the year, he sent me two e-mails, one impressed that I had still kept up the battle, and another warning of hurdles of frustration that lie ahead.

We had different writing styles, different recipes and different websites, but we both spontaneously decided to do this ridiculous project and went through with it. We are, as far as I know, the only two daily dinner blogger veterans on the face of the planet. And now, as far as I know, I have the only daily dinner blog still surviving. I think, if it could, A Food Year misses you, Nosh-Blog. You would have had beautiful babies together.
