We've been keeping a watchful eye on a website that's supposed to tell us when the closest recycling depot has recycling bins in so we can finally properly sort our recyclables. Turns out that website doesn't really know what it's talking about because the closest recycling depot is not the one I was watching, and it just happens to have a ready supply of recycling bins at any given moment. So tomorrow, now that I have a day off, I will go and pick one up and I can feel more eco-friendly again.

I know this because tonight I ate in a restaurant adjacent to the eco center. Funny enough, I didn't even realize this was the case until my fellow diner pointed it out afterwards, and even then I was skeptical because it looks just like a house. In a way, so does Cafe Santropol, which is where we ate. The front portion is like a large porch with tables, the main area is like a living room, the kitchen is, well, the kitchen, and the back room sort of like a living room. It's all quite cozy. We opted out of coffees in favor of beer, which we had to strategically hide under the table so management didn't see. Food tastes better when you're deviant, I guess.

The place mainly specializes in soups and sandwiches. Since I'm still under the assumption I'll make enough soups this month to make up for the rest of the year, I went with a "farfelu" which is not only just a fun word to say, but an assortment of crackers, sticks and other bready things (such as bread) and a choice of two dips. I went with the Hungarian cream cheese and veggie pate. The portion could've easily fed four people as a decent "tide me over" consisting of basically a half loaf of bread and a good portion of everything else. I'm not quite sure what Hungarian cream cheese is, but what I got was sort of like ungarlicky, grainy hummus. Perhaps I did not get what I ordered at all, I may never know. Either way, I preferred this to the pate, which tasted like a whole bunch of bland paprika with occasional bites of gerkin and pickled onion to liven it up a little. The sesame sticks were my favorite; really all I ate from the selection, with a light taste of honey. Yum.

As a completely unrelated note (ok, gerkin-inspired) I’ve taken a liking to calling Shannon “mon petit cornichon” (my little pickle).
