L’uisine de Spaghetti

On September 12, 2006 in Different Dinner Project

I had loosely planned out a couple of dinners to make for Shannon's parents, but since we were out and about all day, we ended up eating at a restaurant. When we first visited here, there was a little Italian place in the old port that we fell in love with. It was inexpensive, had a great salad bar and exceptional pasta. We tracked it down to eat at tonight.

We had an appetizer of crusty rolls with garlic butter and sun-dried tomato pesto pizza. There were a dozen different salads in the salad bar, as well as a few vegetables and pastas. Basically, I was stuffed before the "real" food rolled around. I had a trio of cannelloni, tortellini and pesto spaghetti for my entree. I started off eating the spaghetti, then switched to the tortellini. I was too distracted to even remember that I was neglecting the cannelloni. I was completely stuffed before I dug in to the ricotta stuffed goodness, but I managed to cram it in there, too. Shannon ordered a flower-shaped pasta stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese. Since we both have a penchant for goat cheese, I managed to eat a bite of this as well.

I explained to our waitress, who I assumed is an owner because she was the only one there and she was there previously, that we had remembered her restaurant from our visit over 2 years ago. I said that the food may even be better now than it was then. Of course, I was talking too fast for her to translate very well and I had to slow down and repeat myself. Then she was ecstatic. Not ecstatic enough to give us complimentary wine or anything, but she was very happy about it.

Since I cannot foresee less eating out in the future and it has been somewhat excessive lately, I think I'm going to dedicate time after the project to recreating all the dinners I ate out at during the duration of the project. That seems like a good idea. Somebody hold me to that.
