The Keg

On August 18, 2006 in Different Dinner Project

Some friends of mine took me out to The Keg for dinner tonight. I'd sworn that we'd eaten there already some time this year, but apparently not so. I imagine there won't be too many more days I have to pick through the scraps at home as I am either cooking or invited somewhere to say goodbyes. Our waiter is debatably legal age to serve us drinks and I order a "perfect manhattan" that is many steps from perfect. It's lobster season, so lobster is the feature menu item. This doesn't seem to affect the price at all, at least from our perspective.

As an appetizer we shared tomato basil salsa and canapes that was served with almond crusted goat cheese. I'm not entirely sure what distinguishes basil salsa from bruschetta, which is what it tasted like. Again, I'm a sucker for any and all things involving goat cheese and the platter was quickly devoured.

I ordered the steak Newburg, which is basically steak with cream, butter and seafood. Served with asparagus and a loaded baked potato, it is a defining meal for anyone looking to get gout. The steak itself was surprisingly well cooked, but the newburg aspect was incredibly salty. Since I'd already had a few drinks in me, I ignored my stomach's plea and finished the entire plate. I left feeling overly full and satisfied.
