Cowboy Fry Bread

1/2 cup warm milk
2 teaspoons dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all purpose flour
oil
- Combine sugar, yeast and milk in a large bowl and allow to sit for several minutes.
- Stir in about 1/3 of the flour to the bowl, then add the egg.
- Continue incorporating the flour until you have a smooth, elastic dough.
- Cover the bowl and place in a warm place until doubled in size.
- Place the dough on a floured surface and pat down flat.
- Cut circles out of the dough with the rim of a pint glass and transfer to a baking sheet.
- Cover the baking sheet and place in a warm place until dough begins to rise.
- Meanwhile, fill a cast iron skillet 1/4 full with oil and heat to 350 degrees or until oil starts to swirl.
- Fry dough until browned, about 5 minutes, then flip and fry the other side. Serve hot.
