Philly Up

On May 02, 2006 in Different Dinner Project, May

The night shift is really messing me up. I'm not able to eat dinner at dinner time, so I'm finding that in order to prepare an actual dinner, I'll have to cook it at lunch time. Since Shannon has the car at work during the day, I'm not able to get groceries, so I've just been scrounging with what we've got in the apartment. I suppose that this all comes back to how much I'm actually planning to make dinners, and since I haven't been planning at all, I'm sort of at a loss of what to make.

Tonight (or rather, this afternoon) I made a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich for dinner (or lunch?) I think a Philly cheese steak goes over much better in a pita than it does on bread or on a roll, but it's still a tried and true sandwich nonetheless. Like pretty much any sandwich, the quality of the ingredients has more bearing on the end result than anything you're really doing with it. Again I utilized the bulk sirloins we picked up and they're still quite satisfying.

One of the most important components of a Philly cheese steak sandwich is the cheese. If you don't have a lot of ooey-gooey cheese, then you're really missing out. I've never really known what "American cheese" means when it is called for in ingredients, so I just used white cheddar. I think it went over well. Shannon ate the leftover sandwich guts and said it was really good. I ate the actual sandwich and thought it was very good as well. If you ever have an inclination to make your own Philly cheese, perhaps you'll think it is very good, too. Perhaps you could even use American cheese if you happen to know better.
