Easter #2
The second Easter family dinner features mainly similarities to the first. That's tradition for you. Shannon's parents gave us each and a lottery ticket. My ticket didn't win anything, but Shannon's won . We spent some of that money riding the virtual roller coaster at the mall and the rest went towards gas. I'm not particularly fond of family get togethers; they make me uncomfortable. Pretty much any social gathering that puts me in a room of people I feel compelled to like when I don't know them very well makes me uncomfortable. That's not to say that I dislike Shannon's relatives, because I do, but until the food comes along I find the whole situation quite awkward.
I helped Shannon's mom make her sweet and sour meatballs that is everyone is quite fond of. I made them larger than normal, which lead to me making a remark about my big balls which was apparently really funny. Then I retreated back into silence.
We had a whole onslaught of food, really. Peas, corn, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, potato salad, and, of course, turkey and gravy. Something I've never had at Easter before though, even though I'm from a partially Ukrainian family, is perogies.
For dessert we had 3 different kinds of pie; apple, strawberry rhubarb and pumpkin. Shannon and I shared 3 slivers of each, and apparently we were the only ones that wanted apple. That's blasphemy where I come from! Everyone in her family has given way to convenience and no longer treasures the wonders of home baking, which makes me sad. All of the pies were picked up from the supermarket. The apple was good, but I thought the rest were incredibly sweet.
