High Prairie
We left to visit my mom shortly after work as the first part of our two household Easter visit. High Prairie isn't particularly far from Grande Prairie, so we arrived just a bit after dinner time. She already had a cold meal prepared for us, which was good because we were hungry. We had devilled eggs, pineapple ham and a tossed salad.
Having a hotel manager for a mother definitely has its perks. Shannon and I had our own private suite with a king sized bed and waiting for us when we opened the door was a nice little gift basket of goodies. There are other benefits too, such as when someone leaves behind condiments or other food items in their refrigerators, they inevitably end up in hers. In the side door of the fridge was a selection of over half a dozen different types of mustards. I went with the standard Dijon for my ham. I used to absolutely love ham, but I'm finding as time progresses that the salt content of all cured meats is becoming far too much for me. I can't imagine what a saltless ham would taste like, but it's probably not very good. My mom is guilty of using mint toothpicks to secure the pineapple like I did with the bacon on the Bacon Wrapped Potatoes, so occasionally there was a minty bite in a piece of ham or pineapple.
As well as the mustards there were quite a few salad dressings. I had peppercorn ranch with my salad. The devilled eggs tasted as though they were made with miracle whip, but judging by the number of half-empty jars, it's quite possible they were made with a carefully selected blend of at least 4 different brands of mayonnaise as well.
